Le Arti Orafe at Artigianato e Palazzo 2021

From 16 to 19 September, Le Arti Orafe participated, as every year, in the XXVII edition of the Florentine event dedicated to the excellence of craftsmanship: Artigianato e Palazzo. Hosted in the evocative setting of the Corsini Garden, the event, born in 1995 on the initiative of Neri Torrigiani and Giorgiana Corsini, is today curated by Sabina Corsini, president of Associazione Giardino Corsini.

Artigianato e Palazzo aims to promote the figure of the master craftsman, namely the person who is able to transfer into the object a legacy of knowledge and skills handed down from generation to generation, but renovate to reflect taste and spirit of the time. Since 1985, Le Arti Orafe, the first Italian school dedicated to contemporary jewellery, has been offering the opportunity to acquire and refine solid manual experience and a critical awareness of the craft, thanks to courses that combine workshop training with a more specifically theoretical one. The jewels created are therefore expression of design research and experimentation conducted on the various materials used. The requirements of ‘contemporaneity’ and ‘quality’ demanded by the event are thus confirmed by the educational objectives of the school, founded by Giò Carbone with the precise aim of promoting and encouraging research into contemporary jewellery.

For the occasion, LAO exhibited a selection of works by students from the goldsmithing, enamelling, stone setting, plate engraving and jewellery engraving courses. Visitors were greeted at the entrance to the stand by ‘Eterea’, a silk organza dress designed by the fashion designer Tiziana Alemanni, adorned with jewels made by the school’s students. The public then had the opportunity to see demonstrations by students who took turns at the goldsmith’s bench, practising stone setting and engraving.
