Julie is a materials led practitioner. By working with materials with which there is no prior knowledge established, experimentation and chance are invited into the artistic process. At the RCA, she has been applying this approach to express the role anxiety plays within the creative process. For her latest collection “La Route de la Soie” she has been exploring ideas of representation, giving a new incarnation to pieces that carry a high historical or material significance. Making attainable what was previously exclusive, it creates a new symbolic dimension to the original.
